This version of Star Fleet Exam requires System 7.0 or later.
To install the program, simply copy the folder from the floppy disk onto your hard drive. If you are upgrading from a previous version, then copy the file STAR FLEET OFFICERS from your old folder into the new folder.
This shareware version of Star Fleet Exam V2.1 P contains 800 Star Trek trivia questions. You may submit Star Trek questions for consideration in the next version. If your questions are used, then your name will be listed in the credits. If I include 20 or more of your questions in Star Fleet Exam, then your shareware fee will be waived. Also, if you just want the latest copy, then send in a $5.00 shareware fee (You will recieve a one time upgrade). Please send comments and suggestions to the address above.

This is an official Star Fleet Officers Examination. The purpose of this exam is to determine your qualifications for becoming a Star Fleet Officer. Questions are drawn from Star Fleet records hall located on Earth. Answering 5 questions in a row will merit a promotion, but if a question is answered incorrectly, a rank reduction will occur. The exam will end when you reach Fleet Admiral at level 5.
Game Play
Number of players: You may select One Player or Two Player from the Game menu. When in two player mode, players take turns answer exam questions. Each players rank, level, the number of questions correct and the number of questions answered incorrect. At the start of the game you will be requested to enter your name. This will be used for identification throughout the exam. A list of all officers which have taken the exam and their highest rank are listed. You may select your name from this list or enter a new name. The entire list will be deleted if the Star Fleet Officers file is deleted.
Categories: The default category is all categories. This setting will randomly select questions from the four categories. You may also select one of the four categories which will randomly select questions only form that particular category. The category setting applies to both players in two player mode. Question will not be repeated unless the question list is reset from the Game menu.
New Game: You may begin a new game in several different ways. Select New from the File menu; select Begin Game from the Game menu; or use the keyboard equivalents command N and command B.
Reset: This will reset the question list at any point during the game so that questions may be repeated. This must be done if all questions in that category have been asked, or you may restart the game or you may select another category.
Save Game: A game in progress may be saved and restarted later. Select Save from the File menu and enter a filename. This will save the status of the current game including a list of the questions which have been asked. This is useful in maintaining your rank and level on your quest to become a Fleet Admiral.
Open Game: This will allow you to load a game which has been previously saved. Your rank, level and other stats will be restored.
Quit Game: Select Quit from the file menu or press command Q in order to exit the game.
Rest: Selecting Reset from the Game Menu will delete the question list and allow for questions to be repeated within the same game.
Show/Hide Answers: This menu toggle will hide or show the correct answer after you have selected your answer.
Show/Hide Anxwer Box: This menu toggle will hide or show answer dialog box after you have selected your answer.
Cloak: This will display a demo screen of Qstat. This is a program under development to perform Statistical Quality Control. The screen shown is a sample spreadsheet example used to input data for analysis. For more information on Qstat write to the address listed above. Cloak is used to hide the exam so that unauthorized personnel may not view the Star Fleet Exam.
